“Contemporary discoveries in the timeless tradition of the mandala”
Combinations of ancient knowledge pass through the circle of creative innovation that comprises spiritual/metaphysical adventures within the surfaces of the works on rice paper. Chinese brush is used to build up a color field thus establishing a balance of abstract markings on both sides of the rice paper. Chinese ink and mineral pigments are applied before mounting the rice paper to canvas. Layers of oil evolve the surface revealing “heavy color” markings within the deep luster of the oil. The oil enhances the transparency and preserves the subtle texture of the wrapped, stretched rice paper around the canvas. Development of the process requires decades of work, integrating techniques learned through association with Asian artists.
